How Will You Vote on Tuesday?

One more day before West Virginia votes in the primary. Tensions are running high; the media has their cameras on us. So it's time we get serious and talk about something of real importance. We don't take major events like this lightly.

Which Starfleet Captain do you think was better officer: Benjamin Sisko from Deep Space Nine or Kathryn Janeway from the Starship Voyager?

This is perhaps the most important decision you'll ever make because the outcome of your future could be decided by who leads you into battle with the Borg. Which of these two captains would rather serve under?

Now for some in-depth coverage of the Captains.

Captain Kathryn Janeway:

Accomplishments:

- She navigated her ship home from the other side of the galaxy in the Delta Quadrant.

- She stopped a dangerous alien called Species 8427 from invading our galaxy and conquering us all.

Pros:

- She is the first woman to bring you weekly lessons from the captain's chair of a Starfleet vessel.

- She will fight until her last dying breath, even if it means flying her ship through a protostar or becoming temporarily assimilated by Borg.

Captain Benjamin Sisko:

Accomplishments:

- He stopped the Dominion from taking over the Alpha Quadrant and destroying our way of life.

- He discovered the wormhole aliens and opened a gateway into the Gamma Quadrant for exploration.

Pros:

- He is the first African-American to bring you weekly Star Trek teachings from the captain's chair.

- He is noted for bringing various aliens together to fight for a common cause (even the Romulans).

Vote Now (and you don't have to be from West Virginia to vote). Feel free to leave a comment because if you lived by the word of Star Trek and die tomorrow, Starfleet may be assigning you to serve under one of these two fine officers.

This is really tough, but I'm voting for Captain Janeway on this one because our galaxy needs someone who keeps fighting no matter what the consequences.

I went Sisko, he just looks cooler

6 votes are in. Right now it's 50-50.

Janeway and Sisko are currently tied for best Captain to lead the Alpha Quadrant into battle.

Both of these captains leave a bad taste in me mouth...so I went w/ Decker

Of the other two, I like Sisko, but I just think he needs some more time in the captains chair before I could get behind him.

And Janeway? I couldn't vote for a captain who strangled an ensign with her bare hands to hide her shenanigans. C'mon!

I've stopped caring which captain wins. I'm with Decker all the way!

That's a pretty common assessment of Captain Sisko, Jackie. For the first three seasons of Deep Space 9, Sisko only ranked as commander and didn't become a captain until Season 4 with relations with the Dominion began to really crumble.

Captain Janeway, on the other hand, was a career Starfleet officer even before she got lost in the Delta Quadrant. But some people are uncomfortable with her tactics. She did give back that pocket watch Commander Chakotay gave her for her birthday because Voyager was in trouble and they had to ration replactor made items. Some felt that was cold.

I must admit I'm surprised that you and Mild Red went with Decker, a man who didn't shave for three days after he removed Spock from command against Captian Kirk's will and eventually took his own ship into the heart of the Doomsday Machine killing himself without even taking a shower first.

One thing's for sure, Commodore Decker was truly dedicated to the principles of the Federation and he wasn't selling out for nobody.

And then there's Captain Sisko's spiritual connection to the wormhole aliens with many humanoids might find distressing since they seemed to be prejudiced against corporeal beings.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. What is the First Church going to do if Decker wins?

I had to vote for Janeway because the only captains I'm familiar with are Janeway, Picard, and Kirk. I will admit I have never watched Deep Space 9. Personally, I would prefer Picard for president. He was actually once a Borg, so has a perfect understanding of the enemy. Plus I think his bald head is sexy. Gotta have your priorities straight when picking a leader of the Federation.

James T. Kirk and Jean Luc Picard decided not to run for Starfleet Captain of West Virginia this year. Christopher Pike bowed out too. They decided they didn't want to divide Federation citizens in this time of great peril.

Benjamin Sisko would have made a fine Captain to lead us in battle. He did fight honorably at Wolf 359 and during the Dominion Wars, Since you're unfamiliar with Him, Jennifer, we'll have to spend a little time in the upcoming months covering some of His teachings.
