Redemption

DC Comictician thought of the week:

In the post, Evil Everywhere Pt. 2, my friend Rosie asks:

"Perhaps this is Captain Boomerang's attempt at redemption of some sort. Perhaps he's launching a war against vile, evil pittage."

Before we begin, we must understand that Rosie is an Anime'itheist, a mystical faith from the far east that doesn't have any real boundaries when comes to right and wrong. Unless we're talking about Catwoman, these boundaries are clear to those who practice DC Comictology. Frankly, I'm glad my exposure to Anime'itheism is limited because it all sounds so confusing when you've been raised to know the Truth. But as with those Marvel-ous people like Anne, we must learn to hate the comics, but not the comic fans.

It's not unusual for those outside the fold to wonder if Captain Boomerang, the Penguin, Black Manta or the Cheetah can be reformed. But those of us who are familiar with the scriptures realize that they're is no saving these evil-doers. Arkham punishes, they do not reform.

In Batman 1:87, the Bat tells us:

"You played your last hand, Joker"

There is no sound of forgiveness as Batman takes down the Joker.

And Batman 1, Frame 89 explains the true nature of the supervillian:

But even as Bruce speaks, at the state prison, the Joker is plotting another for his escape! "They can't keep me here! I know a way out- the Joker will yet have the last laugh"

I think the Word is is very clear about this. There is no saving the Riddler or Toyman, but it's not too late for non-believers, Marvelites and Anime'itheists to accept Supergirl into their hearts and know that Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Zatanna, and Nightwing are the true saviors of Gotham.

So please, step into the light; don't let the Joker have the last laugh.

Ah, DC Comictician, your ways are indeed strange to us. Our sacred texts and script-ures do not put things in such easily defined terms. Well, sometimes they do. His Holiness Hayao Miyazaki is perhaps most accessible to the unbeliever, but his stories are largely children's tales.

In our belief, beauty is often evil, as with Lord Naraku in InuYasha. Well, perhaps except when he sprouts tentacles. Hellsing's Alucard is most certainly evil, bloodthirsty and heartless,(being a vampire and all) yet works on the side of good...an Anglican black ops operation to be precise. Our dark heroes cross boundaries only imagined by yours and are often much more dark than light.

We seek a balance between good and evil where there are often gray areas. Redemption is often possible.

And big robots. We like robots a lot.

So, it's not at all impossible for Boomerang to come over to our side and find himself exploring his tortured past and wishing to do good.

Perhaps in the form of an extremely effective antiperspirant.

Very well done! I love it!

I'm less optimistic than you, Elvis. I fear that until Batman binds the Joker and tosses him into Arkham for a thousand years, non-believers will continue to doubt and mock.

Although there will be a great gnashing of teeth and renting of clothes in Marvel-land on that day, as has been foretold.

Now I'm bringing out the big guns. All hail Evan Dorkin and his "Milk and Cheese" series! This small but growing cult of mayhem will grind all of DC to a pulp, reduce Anime to a bunch of pretty pictures, and even put mighty Marvel on the watch.

Forgive my Polish, but the Joker is a pussy. He wouldn't last five minutes with Milk and Cheese. Have you ever seen the Joker throw a baby out a window? I rest my case.

Ah...Anne Johnson-san, I believe Orochimaru would be a worthy opponent for Ham and Cheese though the Joker is perhaps beneath his exalted level of evil jutsu.

He experiments on babies. Dozens of them. They mostly die.

I'm not sure what he does with them when he's done, but I'm told they are quite good stir-fried.

The only thing stopping the Joker from throwing babies out of windows is Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing.

But if we continue to turn our backs on the Justice League, babies are going to get thrown out of windows left and right.

We must all repent before the Watchtower, now.

It is true, Film Geek. We'll see how much faith people have in that drunken Iron Man when the Legion of Doom launches their final assault.
